Care for the society has been one of the important aspects of KIMDS’s philosophy. It believes that an educational institution is part of the society besides performing its role of disseminating excellent management education to the youth of India; it also has a responsibility towards the immediate society of which it is a part. The belief socio-economically healthy society is an essential as is the growth and development of an institution; KIMDS has engaged itself in numerous societal initiatives since inception. This includes distribution of clothes, medicines and other articles of utility, encouraging games for children through giving footballs and other articles of sport, and also providing employment opportunities to the local people is therefore a prominent feature of the business and society literature, addressing topics of business ethics, corporate social performance, global corporate citizenship, and stakeholder management. Management education can be an important source of new ideas about shifting toward an integrated rather than fractured knowledge economy, but this means also that the role and meaning of socially responsible leadership needs to be updated. Much further research is needed to create a clearer understanding of what is required, both in leadership itself and in the field of leadership development.
